NFC EAST: The Wild Wild East, Cowboys title to lose.
This is the Cowboys division to lose. Yes, they lost the top rusher in the league last year in Demarco Murray but with a stout offensive line they should be able to get by using a running back by committee type of back field. As long as Tony Romo remains healthy and Dez Bryant doesn’t become a diva there is no reason the Cowboys should repeat as division champs. The only thing to do is keep an eye on the defense who will be relying on a number of young talent to produce immediately. All eyes will be on first round pick CB Byron Jones.
Team to Challenge.
Most people would choose the Eagles by default, not me. I think they have lost too much during the off season (McCoy, Maclin, and Foles.) Who is starting QB? Whoever is healthy? My pick to challenge “The Boys” are the New York Giants. They have the second best QB in this division and arguably the best young WR in the NFL. They added Super Bowl Champion Shane Vereen to a backfield that needed the versatility of a back that caught 11 passes in the super bowl. If Victor Cruz remains healthy, Manning will have more than enough weapons to pick apart the weak secondary’s that exist in the NFC East. #GoGMen
NFC NORTH: More Cheese, Green Bay Packers remain the same.
It’s pretty much impossible to beat the Packers at their home field and with Aaron Rodgers still at the helm I can’t see this team losing this division and not making a deep run in the playoffs. Last year, it should have been the “Rodgers and Brady” bowl, as Green Bay was one onside away from returning to the Super Bowl. As long as Lacy and Rodgers are on the field you have to put up 35 to beat the Packers, and on some night that just won’t do.
Team to Challenge.
The Detroit Lions finished one game behind the Packers last year in the division.
They were dealt a blow this offseason losing Ndamukong Suh in the trenches but they picked up Haloti Ngata to fill that void. The Lions also ended the season on a 4-1 run hopefully that run “runs-over” into pre-season training camps. With the best WR in the league and a defense that’s stingy, Detroit could make a push for the division title if Calvin Johnson remains healthy.
NFC SOUTH: Close your eyes and point your finger.
The teams in this division are so equally horrible that it’s hard to hang your hat on anyone definitively. What I do know is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will still be horrible, maybe they can improve on the 0-8 mark they posted at home games from last season. The Carolina Panthers paid Cam Newton the big bucks so now they want the big wins. The Atlanta Falcons and The New Orleans Saints have two of the most consistent QBs in the league who each could go on a tear at any moment. This division is up for grabs!!
NFC WEST: Raining Wins in Seattle
The Seattle Seahawks still have the most complete team in this division. With the addition of Jimmy Graham at TE this now opens up the playbook for Russel Wilson at QB and will also give more room for Marshawn Lynch to activate his Beast Mode. As much as things change, they still will remain the same in this division.
Team to Challenge.
I am going out on a limb here but I think the St. Louis Rams may put everything together this year. The defense is already stout and they have a handful of exciting playmakers on offense (Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey, Todd Gurley, Tre Mason, Zac Stacy). But the biggest addition was getting proven QB Nick Foles, who in 2013, threw for 27 touchdown and only 2 picks in 13 games. If Foles can remain healthy, he will be the second best QB in this division and arguably the best pure passer in this division. He will give the Rams a chance to win every game.
