Donald Sterling, ex-owner of the Los Angeles Clippers basketball franchise was banned for life earlier today, April 29th; from the league and was fined $2.5 million dollars for racist comments and strong language in a phone call that surfaced Saturday evening on TMZ’s website. Donald Sterling and what has now come out to be V. Stiviano, his “girlfriend” were going back and forth about a post on her social network Instagram that pictured Laker Legend Magic Johnson and MLB pro Matt Kemp. Sterling was heard on audio asking Stiviano, “Why are you taking pictures with minorities, it bothers me a lot that you want to promo, broadcast that you’re associating with black people. Do you have to?” This quote doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of how disturbing the conversation got, but over and over again Sterling expressed his feelings towards blacks. Sad to say, this isn’t the first time Sterling has been down this lane before. Sterling had been a defendant in two housing discrimination lawsuits, and though both were settled, testimony contained accusations that Sterling had used racially insensitive language. Donald Sterling has a bad boy rep that extends back to 2003; 11 years later it’s finally handled.
