Kendrick Lamar seemed to go on a tear in 2013. He felt like hip hop had lost the art of competition. After hearing Kendrick’s “Backseat Freestyle” and “Money Trees” we all were aware of the lyrical ability that Kendrick possessed. But after Big Sean released “Control”, a song that didn’t make the track list for Big Sean’s album; Kendrick put the whole rap game on notice. From bars that caused controversy like “I’m Makaveli’s offspring, I’m the king of New York, King of the Coast one hand I juggle em both” that NY rappers didn’t take to kind to. The ironic thing is "New York Kings" and hip hop legends such as Jay-z and Nas gave Kendrick the nod, saying they "love the state of hip hop after the verse"; but maybe thats because Kendrick payed homage to both in his control verse. He also called out his fellow hip hop “classmates” if you will, challenging all of them to step their bars up because Kendrick is gunning to be the best. Some seen this as a diss record, others like myself just seen this more so as a challenge record, a challenge to anyone who claims to be an MC to bring competition back because just like basketball and football; hip hop is a sport. The only person that responded that was named was Meek Mill, but I think everyone was anticipating waiting for a response from Drake; well we are still waiting lol. So I pose this question. Is it safe to say Kendrick Lamar is the leader of the new school, is he carrying the torch for the new regime? I would have to say yes.

Naw tell him to drop a second succesful album and then we can start talking.. Drake, in my opinion still leads the new school because as soon as we start sleeping on him he wakes us back up with a new hit.. k-dot is more like a volcano eruption, its chaotic when he comes out with something, but he is dormant most of the time. J. Cole could be on top but he seems to be content with being just mentioned. So it goes Drake, k-dot, Cole in my opinion then you have the Meek Mill, Big Sean and wale's of the world lol.... in other news tho Eminem sucks, magna carta holy grail was some basic shit, and who the fuck signed Cashout lol
